Becoming a Wisdom Woman: Why I’m Back (And What God Taught Me in the Waiting)
It’s been almost two years since you’ve heard from me here on the podcast. It has been a minute.
About two years ago, I really felt the Lord calling me into a season of slowing down. So I faithfully stepped into that, focusing in on homeschooling my kids and helping my husband with his businesses. We’ve done a lot of traveling too. It’s been a wonderful, slower season — yet I’ve almost felt like something has been lacking, just a little bit, in all of it.
My kids are basically all teenagers now. We’re still homeschooling, still running the businesses, still traveling. Life feels busy and kind of messy, if I’m being honest. Far from perfect. We all have room for improvement, including me. My husband and I have walked through things these last two years that haven’t been easy — we’ve had our shares of ups and downs. You could say we are still in the middle of our mess. But God is so faithful to meet us there.
And in the middle of my imperfection, in the middle of my mess, in the middle of my busy life, I really feel like the Lord is calling me back into the heart of my ministry — and honestly, back to how this whole thing began many, many years ago.
A Little History on the Podcast
When this podcast first started, it was called Stepping Into a Joy-Filled Life, and it was very focused on faith and personal growth. It grew really, really large — worldwide reach, hundreds of thousands of downloads. We were focused on biblical wisdom and personal and spiritual growth, and the whole thing was about actively moving forward, actively taking steps forward.
Then about five years ago, when we started homeschooling in 2022, I felt like I was supposed to take the podcast in a homeschool-specific direction. That was great, and a lot of fun. But in the middle of this recent break, the Lord called me back to the heart of my ministry — diving into biblical wisdom again, showing up authentically in the middle of my mess, and sharing it all with you.
So here I am: faith, family, marriage and motherhood, maybe a little homeschool here and there, but really diving into personal and spiritual growth — into God’s Word and goodness — to help you take little steps forward, one faithful, obedient step at a time.
The podcast has been around for years now. We’ve got 200-plus episodes, and those aren’t going anywhere. There’s so much goodness already placed here, and it’s all going to stay so you can always dive back into it. But going forward, I’m moving into something new: Becoming a Wisdom Woman.
The podcast started very action-oriented — Stepping Into a Joy-Filled Life — then became Joy at Home when we were focused on homeschooling. And now, here we are, with God moving it into Becoming a Wisdom Woman.
I’m really excited about it. I’ll be sharing a lot of personal stories from my life, maybe bringing in some guests again, and sharing rich biblical wisdom around faith, motherhood, marriage, and family. I want to talk more about adventure and travel too, since that’s a big part of my life. I want to talk about purpose and calling, and help you step into those things. It’s back to the heart of the ministry that started many years ago — just a little older, a little wiser — and together, we’re going to seek the Lord. Because wise women seek Him.
Plugged Into the Source
Inside these new episodes, I’m promising to show up authentically, with all the messy, unpretty parts of my life. I want to share those things with you, share personal stories with you, and I know that in this process, both of us are going to grow. To be able to pour into you, I have to be plugged into the source. And that’s the same for you — whatever your ministry or mission field looks like, you have to be plugged into the Lord for that to overflow.
I remember sitting at the kitchen table with my family two years ago, telling them I felt God calling me to lay the podcast down — maybe for a season, maybe forever. I didn’t know. My daughter looked at me and said, “Mama, are you sure you’re not going to lose your spark?”
I think she knew two things: that I was passionate about the podcast, and that pouring out here kept me plugged into the Lord in a way that would have been easy to let slip otherwise. And transparently, over the last two years, it’s been really easy for me to make excuses — to tell myself I’m too busy for intimate time with Him. So this whole podcast, this whole relaunch, is as much for my growth as it is for yours.
If you’ve been hanging out with me for any time at all, or all the way back to the early days of the podcast, you know I firmly believe — and I say it often — that the best is yet to come.
So, an official welcome to the podcast. This is Becoming a Wisdom Woman. Let’s dive in.
Becoming a Wisdom Woman: 3 Practical Steps
I want to give you tangible, practical, actual steps you can implement today — right now, listening to this very episode. I’m planning to make these episodes a little shorter than before, and hopefully even more value-packed with actionable steps.
1. Seek the Lord
In Matthew 2:1-12 (CSB), we see the wise men who were literally seeking the Lord: “After Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of King Herod, wise men from the east arrived in Jerusalem, saying, ‘Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star at its rising and have come to worship him.'”
They followed that star all the way to the child: “When they saw the star, they were overwhelmed with joy. Entering the house, they saw the child with Mary, his mother, and falling to their knees, they worshiped him.”
I learned this firsthand at 19, in my very first apartment — a basement rental with old, sketchy blue carpet. One day I spotted a gigantic slug on the carpet — I’m talking three to four inches long, the creepiest thing I’d ever seen. Once I started looking, I found more. Every day, more slugs — on the walls, in the shower, on the ceiling. I did not live in that apartment very long.
Usually, when you seek something, you find what you’re looking for. What you seek, you will find. The wise men were seeking Jesus, and they found Him. Wise men and wise women do the same — seek the Lord, and you will find Him.
2. Sit With the Lord in Reverence
Proverbs is a phenomenal book of wisdom, loaded with goodness. In Proverbs 1:1-7 (CSB), Solomon writes:
“The proverbs of Solomon, son of David, king of Israel: for learning wisdom and discipline; for understanding insightful sayings; for receiving prudent instruction in righteousness, justice, and integrity; for teaching shrewdness to the inexperienced, knowledge and discretion to a young man — let a wise person listen and increase learning, and let a discerning person obtain guidance — for understanding a proverb or a parable, the words of the wise, and their riddles. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and discipline.”
That word “fear” doesn’t mean being scared of God — it means reverence, a holy awe and wonder. Sit with the Lord in that kind of reverence, and honor Him.
3. Walk Through God’s Word
I tell my kids all the time — probably too often, if you ask them — “To know God’s Word, we’ve got to read God’s Word.”
2 Timothy 3:16 (CSB) says, “All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness.” And Joshua 1:8 (CSB) says, “This book of instruction must not depart from your mouth; you are to meditate on it day and night so that you may carefully observe everything written in it. For then you will prosper and succeed in whatever you do.”
My family loves the song “Dusty Bibles” by Josiah Queen, and those words strike me every time. No dusty Bibles here. Open your Bible and meditate on the goodness you find inside — make the time, take the time, to sit with Him in His Word.

Heavenly Father, meet us here in this place. Meet the one listening wherever she’s at — in her car, in her shower, in her kitchen — and wrap Your loving arms around her. Help her feel close to You. Help her, help me, help all of us listening to seek You and seek Your wisdom, and to take steps forward. Remind our hearts that we don’t have to have everything figured out — we just have to take our one next obedient step, and You will faithfully meet us there. We thank You and praise You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
