First, The Black Sheep
The animal in the photo above is a black sheep. I remember the moment I snapped the picture quite vividly. I was at a local petting farm with my kids. There was a pen full of white sheep. Then, over in the corner alone was a pen with a single black sheep in it. You can’t make this stuff up.
I don’t think I’d ever seen a black sheep in real life before, even being the country girl that I am. It kind of took my breath away and to be honest, it weirded me out.
I quietly stepped over to the black sheep and snapped a quick, awkward photo with it. I wasn’t sure what kind of face I should make kneeling beside such a weird looking creature. Plus there was the whole thing about the black sheep being shoved off to the side in it’s own pen… I mean, come on!
I related to the black sheep. I’ve felt like a black sheep, in a variety of ways over my life time. We all have….

But Along Came the Lamb… and the Unfolding of the Greatest Love Story
Thousands of years ago, along came the Lamb. Jesus, The Lamb of God. Guess who He came for? Not the righteous, holy, clean, white sheep. Sure, He loved them too. But who He came for… was the black sheep, the misfit, the outcast, the sinner. He came for you and me.
Jesus, the Lamb of God came down to Earth to be born as a baby, walk as a man and die on a cross as a perfect holy sacrifice. He did it so we, the black sheep could be washed pure and white. The blood He shed that day can wash away our darkness, if only we ask. It’s the greatest love story of all time. Actually, it’s not a story, but truth. It’s the greatest love truth of all time.
It doesn’t end there. Jesus arose after His death and then returned to Heaven with God the Father. He lives there now, and gently invites us to grow in relationship with Him.
When you’re feeling like the black sheep, turn your thoughts to the lamb and the greatest love story… turn your thoughts to Jesus. He’s there, with arms wide open, loving you with the greatest, deepest love.
