My Best Valentine’s Date Ever (It Wasn’t With My Husband! Shhh)

There was a knock at the door. I opened it. He stood there, so handsome with a red rose in his hand.

He smiled so big, revealing the most adorable dimples. My heart skipped a beat. I held my breath. How could I be so lucky to be going out for the evening with this guy?

We listened to our favorite music on the way to the restaurant. We even held hands. We were headed to the fanciest restaurant in town, for steak and candle light. I just kept thinking “I am the luckiest.”

When we arrived at the restaurant, he held the door open for me and I gave him a quick kiss on the cheek. “What a gentleman,” I thought.

We ordered a fancy dinner and we played cards while we waited for it to arrive. We talked and laughed. We laughed SO HARD and he flashed those dimples at me over and over again. We finished the meal with vanilla ice cream… and Runts from the candy machine. I tasted one of the banana flavored ones, then spit it out and announced “the yellow ones are disgusting.” We both laughed until we snorted.

My date? It was my 6 year old son, Chase.

A New Family Tradition

My husband and I had decided we wanted to do something different for the kids that Valentine’s Day, something really special and memorable. We made each one of them a “coupon” for a fancy date night with Mom or Dad.

Our daughter, Chloe went with her Daddy to the same fancy restaurant the very next evening. She was dressed to the hilt and her dad knocked on the door to “pick her up” with roses in hand, just like Chase did for his Momma. (Our littlest guy, 4 year old Canyon got to do an ice cream date with both Mom and Dad.)

You see, not only were we doing something fun and memorable, we were teaching our kids life lessons. They were learning about honor, chivalry, respect and kindness. At dinner, they were learning about manners and about time well spent, together.

It was the MOST special Valentine’s Day that any of us had ever experienced. And it was certainly, my best Valentine’s Date ever. I hope this Valentine’s Day, that you are able to create special, meaningful, fun memories with the ones you love the most!

My handsome date and son, Chase
