Julie is a wife, mother, author, teacher, and blogger. Before she married, she taught speech, drama, and English for three years in the Richardson Independent School District. After she married, she stayed home with her two children and spent time volunteering locally and at the South Texas border. Now that her kids are grown, she works intermittently for her husband, writes, and speaks about marriage and family issues. Julie and her husband have been married for 28 years and live in Dallas, Texas.
Julie joined me on the podcast today to share a story of hope after experiencing years of family tension and hurt. Julie’s childhood was a tough environment. Her dad was a well-known restaurateur and nightclub owner in Dallas before he was saved and became an associate pastor of two megachurches in Dallas, TX. She explains that while her family grew up in church and ministry, it was a quick transformation into that world, with little mentoring and a lot of sin that consumed her family.
As Julie grew into adulthood and got married, there was still constant tension and arguing within her family that left her full of anger and deep hurt. It wasn’t until she was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease that she realized that she needed to rid herself of all of the stress that came from dealing with her extended family.
Julie left her family and for 7 years, she, her husband, and their children had no contact with them. Within that first year away from them, Julie was more at peace and her colon began to heal. She started counseling and was able to let go and forgive. And while Julie thought that she had left her family forever, God had bigger plans.
She tells the story in detail on the podcast about how through prayer and fasting, God brought her back to her family. She’s also sharing how YOU can experience hope when you feel like your own (extended) family is falling apart.
The way God worked in Julie’s life is so, so powerful and beautiful. It’s a story you won’t want to miss!
