Do you remember playing the telephone game as a kid? The game where you sit around in a circle and the first person starts by whispering something in the ear of the person next to them and then it repeats over and over until everyone has heard the whisper. The last person to hear the whisper says out loud what he was told and most of the time, what is said is totally different than what was originally whispered.
It may have been a while since you’ve played that game but the result is still a reality in our day to day lives. We are constantly being told things, whether it’s through family, friends, the news, social media…that are different than what is actually the truth.
Even if we look back into the Bible, way at the beginning in Genesis, we read that God gave Adam and Eve one clear command to not eat the fruit from the tree. But along comes the serpent who whispers in Eve’s ear…”Surely you won’t die”. Eve ran with that untruth, disobeyed, and opened up the door for sin to enter the world.
The Bible says that the enemy comes to steal, kill and destroy in John 10:10 and it cautions us to be aware of the seeds of doubt, lies and fear that he will plant in our ear. Things like worry, anxiety, fear…those are straight from the enemy, Sis. And it’s why it’s so, so important that we become aware of who we’re allowing to whisper in our ear.
Oftentimes, we can hear an untruth and our mind will just run with it, skewing it into something it’s not. The more we give in to that untruth, the more we let the enemy attack and control our minds and our actions, the more powerful that untruth becomes.
Don’t that happen to you, sweet friend. Take note of who is whispering in your ear, who you’re surrounding yourself with, of the people and things that are planting seeds in your heart and in your mind. Make room for the good seeds, the ones that will produce good fruit, and ditch the ones that are only planting bad things in your life.
Let the main source of your truth be God’s word. Fill your ears with His truth and His light!
